Imagine you are playing in a magical field of wonders, where you encounter some magic eggs and some sticks.
The eggs seem to differ in terms of how many stripes and dots they have on them:
And the sticks are of various lengths (have different numbers of segments):
Aha! You discover that when a magic egg touches a stick, it can cause the length of the stick to change (i.e. increasing or decreasing how many segments it has).
Your task is to figure out the causal relationship between the features of the magic eggs (spots and stripes) and the eggs’ effect on the length (number of segments) of the stick it touches.
Hint: It's the same causal relationship all the way through.
To help you do this, you will have the chance to test several magic eggs on several sticks.
For each egg-stick pair, you can click the Test
button and watch what happens to the stick.
You can test each pair as many times as you like.
Once you have performed three tests, you will be asked to write down your best guess of how the magic eggs work. If you guess correctly, you will win a bonus of £0.20.
Then, you will be asked to make 8 predictions about what some new, untested magic eggs will do to some new untested sticks. For each of these that you get right, you will win an additional bonus of £0.02.
After this, you will get to perform three more tests. Then, you will make a second, updated guess about how the eggs work. If you guess correctly, you will win another £0.20 bonus.
Finally, you will make 8 more predictions about what some new, untested magic eggs will do to some new untested sticks. For each of these that you get right, you will win an additional bonus of £0.02.
This means you can make up to £1.97 if you get everything correct, but even if you do not you will still make the basic payment of £1.25.
Important: Your text answers will be checked by a human before bonuses are paid. Nonsensical or copy-pasted responses will result in receiving zero bonus or outright rejection of your task.
Remember there is a bonus if you make a correct prediction.
